TITLE: Something Like It.
GENRE: Free Verse.
CRITIQUE: Yes!
STATUS: Complete.
SUMMARY: I wrote this for school - we were supposed to have a dialogue between two non-living things or ideas.
OTHER: Hm... I'm not crazy about it - the rhythm's off, but whatever.
something like it
i am love or something like it
and i see the world with an
icy frosting pink coating
i am love or something like it
and i cannot bear to cry
i had a lunch with sadness
or something like it
and he said with the absence of a smile
where do you get your faith in
humankind
when there is such sadness and
depression in the world
we call home
but i said with a grin that could light
up a thousand empty hearts
when the show is over
and we are done and
the glory has ended and
the winners have lost and
the losers have won
i said with a smile that could
mend one million broken hearts
when everything is over
and we've all gone home
what's said has been said
and what's done has been done
there is left a twinkling in your
eye and a smile in your heart
and even the sadness is washed away
when we all come home
and he said with a frown that could
darken any doorway
but there is so much horror and death
and pain in our hearts
and in this world we like to call home
or something like it
i shake my head and with a smile
that could light up one trillion christmas trees
and say that maybe in a
very very different world
we would all dwell on sadness and
we would never live
we would never want to live
we would be a cold dead people
but look around and if you think to see
maybe just a second glance
would lead you back to me
he smiles his little funny smile
a sad and lonesome thing
and then begins to wonder
and he says to me carefully
maybe we are just devilish in our
own little world
meant to ponder questions unanswered
and live in horrid pain
remembering only worse times
but maybe
just maybe
we are but heroes in our
own little world
or something like it
to look to better times and
always feel happy like a
bird like a dove like a
fleeting wish
he said to me with a careful smile
we are free to take things as they come
and i said to him
with a smiling grin
you have discovered
the meaning
my meaning
of love
or something like it
