TITLE: I Cannot See the Moon Tonight TYPE: Free Verse CRITIQUE: Yes OTHER: Featured on a RedBubble group, Feb. 2009.
You asked me once, "Can you see the moon tonight?"
It took some readjusting of location and craning of my neck, but eventually I found it. "Yes, and it's beautiful."
We talked all night, you and I, as we watched the moon. We spoke of dreams and fears, whether or not I should go to school naked the next day. That thought didn't make you too happy, of course, but you knew I was joking. You always knew.
The next day, I wished for the sun to go away. I did not want its fiery touch, its rays of warmth. I wanted the moon, for when the moon came, so did you, so did we. We came alive at night.
Each day I waited. Each night I lived. For you and only you. And you always came.
Now, I'm in the car and looking out the window. There is nothing for me to see. The sun has gone away to leave me be, and I am alone.
"I cannot see the moon tonight."
You have been ripped away from me, my love, yet each day I wait and each night... each night... I cannot see the moon.
I do not want to see the moon anymore. I still do not wish for the sun, but I no longer want that big silvery reminder. All I yearn for is the inky blackness of night. Then, and only then, I can sleep, and when I can sleep, I can let go.

Oh my gosh. You're probably going to get tired of hearing it, but it's gorgeous. Beautifully written. I just love it!

Thank you. This is probably my personal favorite of the things I've written, so I'm glad that people like it. Hehe.
